Nagy Zsolt

Cycling Coach

My coaching philosophy is built on science-based preparation and continuous development. I believe progress requires not just kilometres, but deliberate planning and up-to-date expertise.

Professional background and youth development

In my coaching work I pay special attention to youth development: I am committed to working with future cyclists from the U15 category through to U23. My goal is to provide young talents not only with training plans but professional mentorship that helps them integrate into professional sport and achieve long-term success.

Racing experience

As an athlete I am still active today, regularly racing in MTB marathon and cyclocross. I experience the dynamics and challenges of racing firsthand; my best result is 4th place at a national championship.

Professional recognition and qualifications

I am a member of the Hungarian Coaches Association (MET) and regularly give lectures at the University of Physical Education coach training programme on coach branding.

  • 2022: UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) – Level 1-2 coaching certification
  • 2022: IWI Personal trainer
  • 2017: University of Physical Education (TF) – Cycling Coach

Berta Rajmund

Opinions matter — here is Berta Rajmund's account from previous years:

Zsolt and I completed our 6th season together. I usually race in short-distance MTB marathons. Needless to say, we've really gelled over that time.

It was an odd start even during base training — I was dealing with a minor health issue and Zsolt with a much more serious illness. So there were plenty of question marks. I'll spoil the ending: it was a very good season for me! 🙂

Zsolt is the kind of coach who always asks how you're doing. I'm the kind of person who always asks questions — perhaps sometimes too many. 🙂 I can turn to him for advice anytime, and not just about cycling or training.

It often happened that we planned and discussed a week, then had to adjust it mid-week. That was never a problem — he always modified the workouts as quickly as possible. This year we also changed training methods, which paid off — it was my best season yet.

The icing on the cake came on the road — at the season's last race, #CRIF, I stood on the second step of the podium in my category. A perfect end to the season. On to the next one. 🙂

I got in touch with Zsolt after a longer break because I needed external motivation. Why him? The dedication clearly visible on the website and Facebook results list convinced me. We agreed sometime in November that I wanted heart-rate based training. At the end of December I had a performance test — the result was sobering. We basically started working together from 1 January, almost from zero. My goal was to participate in as many domestic BRM rides as possible. Three months later I completed the season-opening 200, then the 300 and 400 km distances too.

Every Monday Zsolt reviewed the previous period with me, we coordinated the week ahead, and he set workouts on TrainingPeaks. If I had a problem, I could reach out anytime! I never felt second-rate because I'm nearly 50, my age or my not-too-professional technique! He gave incredibly practical advice on fuelling and avoiding heat stroke. He was honest and helpful throughout. Special thanks for the extra free help when my younger son decided he would start road cycling too. Absolutely recommended — he can answer any cycling question!

We've been working together since 2021 and thanks to structured training I've improved enormously. Our work includes continuous communication, setting realistic goals in advance, and afterwards detailed review of races and harder workouts to find areas that need development.

It's very important to me that alongside work and family I spend the time I have for cycling as efficiently as possible. Beyond training planning, Zsolt's personality and openness add a lot to our work together — which already brought victories this season.

I worked with Zsolt from May 2022 to September 2025. Although I had relatively good foundations, we reached a level I never thought possible. Back then I was racing middle distances and couldn't imagine finishing a long MTB marathon. Now I'm capable of a higher pace over long distances than I was over middle distances three years ago.

He always aligned my training with my personal life and work, keeping the best development in mind, and most importantly I wasn't training blindly — I always knew what I was doing and why, and he gladly explained whenever I had questions.
